What are slewing ring bearings?

iglidur® PRT slewing ring bearings are ready-to-install bearings for lubrication-free dry operation. The design is not based on re-circulating components, but on maintenance-free sliding elements made of tribologically optimised iglidur® materials and rings made of lightweight anodised aluminium or stainless steel.

iglidur® materials are universally applicable and can be used in combination with high temperatures, moisture, chemical contact or in the food industry.

The igus® PRT slewing ring bearings with plastic sliding elements produce significantly less noise and vibrations. For you as an operator, plastic gears - for example in robots - lead to an application that is up to four times quieter.

Resistant to chemicals and media

Suitable for the food industry (FDA) and daily cleaning with cleaning agents and high pressure. PRT slewing ring bearings are also an ideal solution for special applications with high temperatures of up to 180°C or ESD.
The rings are made of plastic, aluminium or stainless steel.

Efficient solar energy for mobile homes

The company CityFreighter has developed the "Solartrackr", a tracking photovoltaic module that supplies mobile homes with self-sufficient electricity. The system automatically aligns itself with the sun and thus optimises energy generation. For reliable and maintenance-free movement, the company relies on lubrication-free iglidur PRT slewing ring bearings from igus, which work precisely even under demanding weather conditions.

    TV mount with iglidur® PRT slewing ring bearing

    The PRT slewing rings can withstand a static axial load of 27,000 newtons and a dynamic axial load of 7,000 newtons. 
    The TV mount can also be pivoted, telescoped and rotated up to 360° at the same time. The mount impresses with innovative unique selling points such as freedom from lubricants to avoid contamination of technical devices, as well as freedom from maintenance and quiet operation for optimal comfort.

    The compact design of the PRT-02-30 makes it the ideal flip chart solution. Thanks to ready-to-install delivery and easy assembly. In addition, due to the plastic sliding elements made of iglidur material, maintenance work is no longer necessary after installation.

    Personal robot

    When upgrading a customer robot, an iglidur PRT slewing ring was incorporated in the axis for the first time. An iglidur PRT-02-20 is now used in the rear axis of the robot. In order to optimally meet the requirements of EEVE, igus designed a custom solution with reduced required drive torque. It ensures that the rear wheel can rotate freely even in harsh operating conditions and without any maintenance.

    Insulation material cutter with iglidur® PRT slewing ring bearing

    An iglidur® slewing ring, PRT-01 with an outer drive ring made of aluminium and sliding elements made of iglidur® J were used to develop a 3D head that makes angled cuts and holes using a high-pressure water jet.
    The success for our customer: an automatic insulation material cutter that cuts the insulation boards according to the CAD data.
