Rail systems for maintenance-free adjustment of footrest on a motorcycle

The seating position on motorbikes is fixed and therefore cannot be individually adjusted to the rider's height. This very often leads to tension in the hands, back, neck and especially in the leg area. MV Motorrad Technik GmbH wanted to help the rider with this problem and therefore developed a footrest that can be adjusted hydraulically or mechanically to the rider's measurements. 
For the linear bearing system required for this, they were looking for a solution that would work without any problems even in aggressive environmental conditions such as salt, dirt and water, which can affect the lower components when riding a motorbike. The aim was to enable maintenance-free operation of the footrest mechanism. It was also important that the system could be quickly and easily integrated into the existing structures while taking up as little space as possible.

The designer ultimately decided to install a drylin® W double rail system, which now makes it easy to adjust the footrest. At the touch of a button or using a knurled wheel, the driver can adjust the footrest up to 60 mm up or down via a spindle drive and thus select the correct position. This allows either a more relaxed ride or more lean angle freedom in road racing or mountain riding, for example.
The special feature of the drylin® rail system is that it can withstand aggressive media, i.e. salt, dirt and grime as well as water, without jeopardising the maintenance-free function of the adjustment mechanism. As the visually attractive and friction-locked double rail system is particularly flat, it was easy to install and no modifications had to be made to the motorbike.
There are already plans for a later version that will allow the footrest to adjust automatically.
