Plain bearings made from iglidur A500 can be used at high temperatures and are approved for direct contact with food (FDA-compliant). They have exceptionally good chemical resistance and are therefore suitable for the most difficult applications in the food industry. Although iglidur A500 is a tough material, it also has excellent compressive strength, even at high temperatures.

In the short-term, iglidur A500 plain bearings can be used at temperatures of up to +300°C. The compressive strength of iglidur A500 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. The temperatures prevailing in the bearing system also have an influence on bearing wear. At temperatures above +130°C, additional safety device is required.
Temperatures, coefficient of thermal expansion
| iglidur A500 | Application temperature |
|---|---|
| Minimum | -100°C |
| Max. long-term | +250°C |
| Maximum, short-term | + 300°C |

iglidur A500 also allows high surface speeds due to its high temperature resistance. However, the coefficient of friction increases due to this high speed, which leads to higher heating of the bearing. Tests show that plain bearings made of iglidur A500 are more resistant to wear during pivoting movements, and the permissible pv value is also higher in pivoting operation.

| Maximum surface speed [m/s] | Rotating | Oscillating | linear |

| Short-term | 1.0 | 0.7 | 2.0 |

The compressive strength of iglidur A500 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. Diagram 02 illustrates this relationship. The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from this. Diagram 02 shows the maximum recommended surface pressure of the bearing as a function of temperature. The combination of high strength on the one hand and high flexibility on the other has a very positive effect on vibrations and edge loads. As the wear of the plain bearing increases rapidly from pressures of 10 to 20MPa, we recommend that the use above these limits is checked very carefully.
The coefficient of friction depends on the load acting on the bearing (diagrams 04 and 05).
Coefficients of friction for iglidur A500 against steel (Ra = 1μm, 50 HRC):
| iglidur A500 | dry | Greases | Oil | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coefficient of friction µ | 0.26 - 0.41 | 0.09 | 0.04 | 0.04 |
Diagram 06 shows an extension of the results of tests with different shaft materials that were carried out with plain bearings made from iglidur A500. The combination "iglidur A500 against hard chrome-plated shaft" clearly stands out during rotation. The wear of this combination remains largely load-independent up to approx. 2.0MPa. When swivelling against shafts made of Cf53, the wear resistance is better than when rotating under the same load. If the shaft material you require is not included in this diagram, please contact us.

iglidur A500 plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed for press-fit into a housing machined to a H7 tolerance. After being assembled into a nominal size housing, in standard cases the inner diameter automatically adjusts to the F10 tolerances.
