Reliable ventilation and pressure protection flaps

Profile

  • What was required? different components for bearings in ventilation systems
  • Manufacturing process: injection moulding, 3D printing (selective laser sintering)
  • Requirements: temperature-resistant components
  • Material: iglidur J, iglidur I6
  • Industry: railway technology - exterior
  • Success for the customer: bearings become maintenance-free and resistant to dirt; increase in service life

Both fresh air from the air conditioning and cooling of important electronics - in express trains and trams, constant air supply must be guaranteed and regulated. Pressure protection systems and ventilation flaps can be easily moved by means of different igus products. No matter what technology is used for slat control, igus components make your bearings maintenance and lubrication-free. The stress on the slats on the roof or under the carriage body is extremely high due to weather and dirt. With igus products, a high service life can still be reached in this application.
Compressed air flap for trains with iglidur plain bearings and rod end bearings

iglidur plain bearings, gears printed in 3D, igubal spherical bearings and lead screws as well as tribotape are used. In all products, iglidur high-performance polymers are used at the crucial places, which are subjected to extensive friction and wear tests in the test lab. They contain incorporated solid lubrication and therefore do not require additional lubrication. Therefore, maintenance is minimised due to these components, and dirt cannot stick to the bearings. Demanding weather conditions also do not pose a problem.

Metallic gears can be replaced with 3D printed plastic gears. These are produced in a selective laser sintering procedure and are characterised by extremely high wear resistance and cost-effective manufacturing. Shape and size of the gear can be determined individually.
