The xirodur B180 material guarantees a long service life at low costs

igus, the tribo-polymer specialist, is extending its range of xiros ball bearings by including a newly developed end cap ball bearing. It is made of the low-price yet high-performance xirodur B180 material. Since assembly is fast and straightforward, it can be used equally well for both new machines and retrofitting jobs.

Like all xiros polymer ball bearings, the end cap ball bearing proves to be a great solution when costs are compared to conventional bearings. The maintenance-free dry run, permitted by use of the tribologically optimised polymer xirodur B180, guarantees low friction values for the inner and outer bearing ring. For this reason, the ball bearing proves especially durable. The service life can be calculated exactly on the igus website using the online tool "QuickLife". The specifications this includes are based on comprehensive tests carried out in the igus laboratory. Since no lubricants are needed, there is no environmental pollution either. Expensive machine and system maintenance and downtimes are also dramatically decreased.

Special properties of the xiros end cap ball bearing
This plastic ball bearing allows high rotational speeds with a limit speed of 1,800 rpm and smooth running. The running smoothness is influenced to a decisive extent by the choice of ball material. The xiros end cap ball bearing can be equipped optionally with glass, plastic or stainless steel balls. The balls are housed in a polyamide cage which guarantees high material strength and ductility. The tribo-polymer xirodur-B180 also makes the end cap ball bearing resistant to chemicals and corrosion. Temperatures of between -40°C and +80°C can be managed without any malfunctions, even over longer periods. The low weight of only 32.5/25.9 grams permits installation even under very low weight requirements. Nor has weight been reduced at the expense of stability: The axial load-bearing capacity is 245 N in static use and 294 N in dynamic applications.

Focussing quality to secure a broad spectrum of applications
The new xiros end cap ball bearing can be used for a whole range of applications thanks to its unusual performance characteristics. For example, rollers for roller conveyors are easy and quick to make. Tubes with an outer diameter of 50 mm are turned into the respective rollers simply by inserting the end cap ball bearings. Different roller lengths, thicknesses and materials are possible depending on requirements; all you have to do is cut the central tube to the right length. Since no lubrication is required, unnecessary soling and the risky use of solvents are avoided. The ball bearing can be cleaned with water if necessary, thus meeting high hygienic and ecological standards. This is particularly important for branches where soiling is not tolerated at all, such as the food or packaging industries. Here the xiros end cap ball bearing provides a durable, lubricant-free and cost-effective solution.
